Brilliant Max now includes two new modes: Home Mode and Night Mode. With this release, the subscription doubles its library of curated smart home automation, from the two modes available at launch (Away Mode and Vacation Mode) to four. Together, the new modes cover the hours when most families are actually home, from the moment someone walks in the door to the moment the house settles down for the night.
“When Brilliant Max launched in July, we promised a smart home that keeps getting smarter after installation. Home Mode and Night Mode are the next step in that commitment, and they will not be the last. We plan to keep expanding the Brilliant Max modes library over time, so every subscription grows in value the longer a family has it” said Jonathan Temlock President & CEO of Brilliant.
What Home Mode Does
Home Mode is the everyday mode for when people are home, designed to balance comfort and energy efficiency. When it is set as the default, it runs automatically whenever no other mode is active, so the moment Away Mode or Vacation Mode ends, Home Mode picks up where they left off. Homeowners can also turn it on or off from the Brilliant app or any Brilliant Control, and change the default setting in the app.
Instead of asking homeowners to build every automation themselves, Home Mode suggests a starting set of capabilities based on the devices and rooms in each home:
-
Motion-based lighting by room type. In rooms with motion sensors, lights turn off automatically after a room has been empty for a set time: 5 minutes in hallways and other passthrough spaces, 10 minutes in bathrooms and utility spaces, and 30 minutes in common areas and bedrooms. Any room type can be switched to turn lights both on and off with motion.
-
Comfortable climate- Thermostats are set to a Heat/Cool range of 68 to 72 degrees.
-
Seasonal shade control- During daylight hours, shades close when it is above 80 degrees outside to block the heat, and open when it is cooler to let in natural light.
-
Smart HVAC shut off (when paired with Shelly door and window sensors) - If a door or window stays open for 5 minutes, Home Mode turns the thermostat off so the home doesn’t waste energy heating or cooling the outdoors. Brilliant Max turns the HVAC back on once every door and window is closed.
Every suggestion can be adjusted in the app to fit how a family actually lives. The Home Mode and Night Mode support article walks through setup.
What Night Mode Does
Night Mode runs inside Home Mode as its Night Settings and prepares the house for sleep. By default it runs from 10 PM to 7 AM every day, and homeowners can change the start and end times, tie them to sunrise or sunset, and choose which days it runs.
When Night Mode starts, the home shifts into a quieter, more efficient state. Selected lights turn off, shades close, and connected devices such as lights on Shelly relays switch off. Lights will automatically be dimmed when turned on ensuring not to disturb others in the home nor ruin your night vision. In the morning, Night mode turns off and Home Mode resumes on its own. The result is a home that winds down with the family, without anyone walking room to room to turn things off.
Smart Home Automation That Is Ready Out of the Box
Most smart home platforms, including Amazon Alexa and Google Home, let homeowners build their own routines, and those tools are flexible for people who enjoy setting them up. Brilliant Max takes a different approach. Modes arrive pre-configured and personalized to the devices in each home, then run quietly in the background. A household can switch modes from the app, from any Brilliant Control on the wall, automatically by location, or on a schedule, and everyone with the Brilliant app is notified when a mode starts or ends.
Because Brilliant connects lighting, climate, shades, locks, security systems, cameras, and more in one system, each new mode can coordinate the whole home at once. That is what lets Brilliant Max add value with a software update instead of new hardware.
Pricing and Availability
Home Mode and Night Mode are available now to Brilliant Max subscribers. Brilliant Max costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year per home and includes a 30-day free trial for new subscribers, and is available to customers in the United States. New subscribers also receive a free Shelly door/window sensor so they can make the most of Home Mode and Night Mode.
The Takeaway
With Home Mode and Night Mode, Brilliant Max now covers leaving, traveling, being home, and going to bed. Doubling the modes library is a clear signal of where the service is headed: more curated automation, delivered continuously, so a Brilliant home keeps getting better every month.
