Other installation Resources
It is possible to install Brilliant in "3-way" or "multi-way" configurations, where more than one switch controls the same light. To learn more about it, read below.
What is a "Multi-way" Configuration?
A "3-way" switch makes it possible to turn the power on and off from more than one location. "4-way” switches are added when there are three or more locations. A “multi-way” switch is a “3-way” or “4-way” switch, meaning that the same lights can be controlled from multiple locations.
If you have a multi-way switch and plan on using a Brilliant Smart Dimmer, you will need to replace the entire setup with other Brilliant Smart Dimmers or Brilliant Controls. To see how to properly install your switches, we highly recommend walking through the installation in the Brilliant Mobile App or see our diagrams here
Multiway Configuration where Switch is Load Side and Control is Line Side
Since your Control is receiving power (Line Side), we will need to configure the Control to pass the power to the load side and remap the slider for the fixture you wish to control that is currently controlled by your Smart Dimmer Switch.
Load Side Switch Configuration
- Open the Brilliant Mobile app and go to Settings --> Install
- Start the install of a Smart Dimmer Switch
- On the step where it asks how many Switches control your load, make sure to select 1. (This is because only the Load side switch will control the load...all other switches will communicate with the load side switch via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi).
- Complete the configuration of this load side Switch
Line Side Control Configuration
- Go to the Brilliant Control.
- Tap on Settings --> Light --> select the # corresponding to the position (multi-gang units only)
- Tap on “Re-configure” under “DEVICE INFO” and select Light Type as “Always On”. When it asks you how many switches control this load, select 1. (This is because only the Load side switch will control the load...all other switches will communicate with the load side switch via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi).
- Once your light is reconfigured as Always On, go to Settings --> Slider (multigang Controls only) (for single gang Control go to Gestures)
- Now you are on the control's slider settings. Scroll to Slider Controls below and select “Update Slider Settings” and update the slider to control the load (from the load side Switch).

Line Side Switch Configuration
- Open the Brilliant Mobile app and go to Settings --> Install
- Start the install of a Smart Dimmer Switch
- When you are setting up the light type, make sure to select Power Outlet (Always On)
